√ When packing put everything you want in your bag… then take half of it out again.
√ Learn three words in the local language before you travel: ‘Hello’, ‘Please’ and ‘Thank you’
√ If you are just starting to plan your pilgrimage click here for some of my top planning tips.
√ Always check if you need Visa’s. Turning up to a foreign country without a visa can be a massive headache… obtain before the plane is my theory.
√ Insurance: Always get travel insurance and don’t necessarily go for the cheapest option. Look at what you get with your policy, one I looked at didn’t cover natural disasters affecting my travel plans for example, and with mother nature rearing her head more often than not recently that wasn’t an option for me. Also how much will they pay out if you loose your luggage etc.. I know it’s the dull part of travel but read up people.
√ Do an itinerary double check: Usually when booking a big trip you do a lot of planning months before then forget what you booked. Go through, check that your flight dates marry up to your accommodation dates and how much luggage you’re allowed on flights. Nothing like trying to get on a flight with all your recently purchased goods only to find you’re either not allowed that much weight or you have to pay through the nose for the privilege.
